Day by Day the Path Clears

one of my latest fav trail, Upper Shoals, Glendale.

The path that’s made by walking, the writing that’s accomplished by practicing.

The path gets clearer day by day within the tiny pockets of time; the accumulation of small moments that contribute to chipping away–one story at a time. The goal is to have a revised collection of essays by the end of the year. Literary agents out there, do you read me?

Here we are in good company once more! Thank you, NCWN:
“Asheville’s Mildred Kiconco Barya—who won this year’s Jacobs/Jones African-American Literary Prize for a different piece—took third place here [Rose Post Creative Nonfiction Competition] with her essay “Extra-carrying,” of which Tessa Fontaine said,

Another recent find, Lower Shoals, Glendale.

“This intense, beautiful essay deftly weaves the history of enslaved women carrying seeds in their hair alongside the narrator’s own experiences with, and reflections about, hair and food. I love the academic qualities of this essay, and the inclusion of many outside voices thinking about crops and women’s strength. I also really appreciated the way the narrator brings in their own experiences with hair plaiting and contemporary politics, among many other topics, to bring to life this fascinating piece of history.”

Congratulations also to Anne P. Beatty and Cathia Friou. To read more click here.
